Nature & Culture. Rest & Reflection.
Connecticut's Most Romantic Inn
in Norfolk, CT
Rest. Reflect. Reconnect.
The Manor House Inn is a restored 1898 Tudor estate on five acres in Norfolk, Connecticut — a quiet, walkable village in the Litchfield Hills, and a quintessential New England bed and breakfast perfect for a romantic retreat, a cultural weekend, or nature-immersive stay. An invitation to savor digital distancing, a nature reset, and a pace that asks nothing of you but presence.
We are a Connecticut Green Lodging Hotel, rooted in conservation and preservation — among the few lodging properties in the state to hold this designation. Our Values and Commitments shape how we operate, source, and host.
The property is adult-oriented and nonsmoking. Digital distancing is warmly encouraged — we offer vintage books, board games, and lawn games, and our five acres invite you to slow down. Whether you're seeking rest and romance or a base camp for Litchfield Hills Outdoor Activities, Manor House offers both. We also offer an unparalleled location for birdwatching and stargazing in Connecticut.
Coming in 2027: Connecticut's Northwest Corner will welcome its first nature-immersive Nordic Spa, located on our grounds.
The surrounding region offers an exceptional range of experiences within easy reach: biking, hiking, and kayaking; the Connecticut Wine Trail and Beer Trail (including Norbrook Farm Brewery, a short bike ride or drive away); Covered Bridge Electric Bike Tours; and New England's most celebrated fall foliage drives. Galleries, antique shops, museums, and vintage theaters complete the picture.
Manor House sits a short walk from Infinity Music Hall, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and Yale Summer School of Music — making it the natural choice for guests attending performances or residencies in Norfolk.
EV charging is available one block away at Norfolk Town Hall. While we cannot accommodate pets, HHH Canine Lodge & Ranch offers nearby boarding.
Accommodations
Built in 1898, the Alders Estate offers nine individually designed suites — each with a private bathroom, and several with fireplaces, private balconies, or whirlpool tubs. These are not interchangeable hotel rooms. Each suite is a considered space: quietly decorated, genuinely comfortable, and suited to the kind of rest that restores.
Manor House Inn is the ideal base for a romantic getaway in Connecticut's Litchfield Hills — or simply a place to exhale. We sit on a peaceful residential street, a short walk from Norfolk village, with a full-service restaurant, cafes, country store, and historic library. Scenic hiking trails are minutes away, including Campbell Falls, Dennis Hill, and Haystack Mountain, which offers panoramic views across three states.
For guests seeking a quietcation, a nature reset, or a private retreat in Connecticut's Northwest Corner, our accommodations are designed with intention — unhurried, uncluttered, and fully at your pace.

Activities & Packages
Some of the most memorable moments at Manor House happen outside the suite — on a trail, beside a lake, or spread across a blanket with a glass of something local.
Our Share Plates are crafted from the finest producers in the Litchfield Hills: Cato Corner Farm cheese, Arethusa dairy, Nodine's smoked meats, Topmost Farm provisions, and more. Order in advance and we'll have everything ready — whether you're staying in or heading out.
Our Picnic Packages pair beautifully with everything the region offers: hiking Campbell Falls or Haystack Mountain, paddling the Housatonic, cycling the country roads, or exploring the Connecticut Wine Trail and Norbrook Farm Brewery. Antique shops, artisan studios, and historic villages round out a perfect Litchfield Hills day.
This is the unhurried pace of a true nature retreat hotel in Connecticut — where the landscape does the planning, and the only thing left to decide is when to open the basket.
Dining
Mornings at Manor House begin with a two-course breakfast — one thoughtfully prepared seasonal entrée, served at your pace. Guests return for dishes like our pain perdue with seasonal fruit compote, Manor House Inn grain bowl, and tomato and herb frittata with crumbled goat cheese. Dietary accommodations — gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and others — are made with care and 24 hours' notice.
Beyond breakfast and our signature Share Plates, the Litchfield Hills rewards the curious diner. Scenic drives lead to exceptional restaurants, farm stands, and producers woven into the landscape of Connecticut's Northwest Corner.
For something more gathered, our culinary team hosts intimate group dinners, culinary excursions, and cooking classes at the Inn — an ideal addition to a retreat, celebration, or creative weekend. These experiences can be paired with our Picnic Packages for a fully curated stay.
